The majority of the spoofs, parodies, rip-offs, and nods should be very obvious. ![]() Ther are AD Vid-Notes that help point out some of the puns and parodies. heck, even a Steel Angle Kurumi character spoof. Finally, they land in a Kung Fu world containing many Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Fist of the Northstar, and DBZ spoofs. Next is a robotic/Space Age world with Harlock-esque space pirates, sentai team and mecha, and a panties stealing goblin. First, they battle through a Dragon Quest/Medieval France-type world (complete with 8-bit monochrome art scenes like the game art). Each of the following episodes takes place in the new version of the shopping arcade. The first is the stage-setter introducing the characters, the arcade, and the reason for the dimension sliding. Every time they defeat the goblin boss of that world, they are granted a wish they only wish to go home, but goblins aren't very trustworthy with wishes. Sasshi and Arumi are two 12-year-olds who find themselves battling in game-like parallel dimensions of their own Abenobashi Shopping Arcade. Grade: 10 Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi will have you in stitches in seconds! While not quite as out-of-this world, parody-filled crazy as Excel Saga, but this Gainax ( Evangelion, FLCL) series is an untra-tight second. Readers should proceed at their own risk.
